The first senior class of Lincoln High School chose the "Phoenix" as the school mascot. The Phoenix is a bird from ancient mythology. It lives somewhere to the East and has a life-span of 500 years. Near the end of its life, it flies to the middle east. There it finds a perfect palm tree and builds a nest in the top of the tree. As the rays of the dawning sun strike the nest, it catches fire. The old Phoenix is destroyed, but leaves behind a small worm, which is nourished by the ashes. From this worm grows the new Phoenix. Magnificent in its resurrected splendor, the new Phoenix flies to its paradise home in the East to live a life of peace and happiness.

As the new Phoenix has risen, so also have we.
